Radical Transparency: Why our sheets cost what they do.

We know our hemp sheets are an investment, so in the spirit of radical transparency, we wanted to share a breakdown of all the costs involved in bringing one to life.

E
very step of their production we have made conscious decisions to make them the right way, not the cheap way. This is also why we never go on sale, because we have already passed on every saving, and cost our products with people over profit in mind.

We're a family-run business and pay above award wages to manufacture in Australia. We have sourced the most premium 100% hemp sheeting fabric on the market and worked with the same family-run supplier in China for over a decade (and followed our supply chain in China from the field to finished fabric). We also ship carbon neutral and use biodegradable packaging. This all comes at a higher cost, but we know our premium product is better for it.

Here's the breakdown:

The two most important expenses of a product are the materials, and the time or labor required to produce it. If either of these are not valued by a brand, the quality of the product suffers. This is why most of our costs are in these two areas (where they should be!)

We then have to factor our overhead expenses and average them out over products sold (as seen in operating costs)

Traditional pricing models involve a couple rounds of mark-ups, which can double or even triple the cost of the product by the time it reaches the consumer. We avoid this by selling directly to our customers through our website, cutting out wholesale pricing markups.

Our small profit margin goes directly back into the business developing zero waste projects, and building our mending circle movement which aims to empower individuals to learn basic repair skills and divert textile waste from landfill.

As you can see, this is not the business model of a brand trying to take over the bedding world, we completely rely on our customers seeing the value in what we do and telling their family and friends. With these sorts of margins we are certainly not heading for a multimillion dollar buy-out by a faceless corporation - our dream is, and has always been, to find our people out there who appreciate and want to invest in good things, made right.

Thank you for coming on this journey with us, and as always if you have any questions, just reach out via our contacts page.

Love,

Bing and Kate
